2009 Co-MVP's:
STACIA ROBERTSON Nebraska Twisterz
Robertson, a 6-1 senior from Grand Island High
School (Neb.), paced the Twisterz averaging 20.5 points per game during the
Showcase. She also broke the record for free throws in a tournament (52) and had
the third highest tournament scoring total in history (164) and is third all
time in career point at the Showcase with 296. She has committed to the Division
I University of South Dakota.
JANNA GRAF KC Blue Streaks
Graf was the leading scorer for the KC Blue Streaks during
the Showcase putting up 12.3 points per game. As a junior, she averaged 19.8
points and 8.7 rebounds for Shawnee Mission East High School and was named
first-team All-State and the Conference Player-of-the-Year.
2008 MVP:
TAELOR KARR Missouri Valley Eclipse I
Karr, directed the offense for the tournament champion
Missouri Valley Eclipse I squad. She distributed the ball to a variety of
scorers, as six different players for the championship team averaged over seven
points per game.As a junior, she averaged 15.0 points for Paola High School. In
the title game at the Miss Basketball Showcase she scored 10 points. Karr has
verballed to NCAA Division I Kansas State University.
2007 MVP:
KATELIN ONEY IBCA Iowa Select I
The leading scorer on a team with eight players that averaged
between 5.3 and 9.8 points per game, Oney helped lead the IBCA squad to the
programs first Miss Basketball Showcase title. As a junior, she averaged 15.9
points for Cedar Rapids Washington High School, which finished 22-3 and reached
the state semi-finals. She earned 2nd Team All State honors. Oney has verballed
to NCAA Division I Northern Iowa University.
2006 MVP:
JILL YOUNG South Dakota Elite
One of the best girls basketball players in South Dakota history, Young
scored 765 points as a junior to break the all-time single season state record
of 760 points. She enters her senior season 4th on the state's all-time scoring
list. A prolific three-point shooter, the 5-foot-7 Young holds the South Dakota
high school record for 3's in a season and a career. She earned 2nd Team All
State honors as an 8th grader, and 1st Team honors in 9th, 10th and 11th grade.
In 2006, she led Mitchell Christian to a 24-2 record and the state title while
averaging 30 points, 10.8 rebounds and 7 assists per contest. During the 2006
Showcase, Young averaged 15.4 points per game and 3.0 three-pointers per game.
At Mitchell Christian High School, Young started since the seventh grade and
finished her career in 2007 with state records of 3,317 points and 462
three-pointers. She will play at NCAA Division I South Dakota St. University.
2005 MVP:
ASHLEY SWEAT Kansas Prime Time
The three-time Showcase All-American averaged 21.75 points per game while
leading Kansas Prime Time to the championship game of the 2005 Showcase. The
all-time leading scorer at the Showcase with 456 points, Sweat averaged 21.71
points in 21 games at the event over three years. Sweat holds the second, third
and fourth spots on the average points per game chart with averages of 20.8 in
2003, 23.2 in 2004 and 21.75 in 2005. A 6-foot-2 forward, Sweat led McPherson,
Kan., to a perfect 25-0 record and state title in 2005. She now plays for Kansas
St. University.
2004 Co-MVP's:
CHEVELLE HERRING Daubert Pinnacle Nebraska I
A talented 5-foot-6 point guard, Herring averaged 12.4 points and 5.4
assists for Bellevue East High School, which finished 24-5 and state runnerups.
During the Showcase, she averaged 9.6 points on balanced team with four players
that averaged 9.3-9.8 points. Herring scored a team high 19 in the 48-45
championship game victory over the Kansas Dream Team. She now plays for
Creighton University.
JOANN HAMLIN Kansas Dream Team
The heavily recruited post was named to the 2003 Miss Basketball
All-American Team as she helped the Wichita Tornadoes reach the finals. In 2004,
the 6-foot-2 Hamlin averaged 15.5 points to lead the Kansas Dream Team to the
finals. As a junior, she averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds for Winfield, Kan.,
and was named Class 5A 1st Team All-State. She is now playing at the University
of Iowa.
2003 MVP:
DANIELLE GANT Air Oklahoma Stars
The two-time all-stater averaged 22 points and 14 rebounds as a
freshman, and followed that up by averaging 23 points and 11.7 rebounds as a
sophomore for Class 6A (large school) Putnam City West High School in Oklahoma
City, Okla. Last summer, Gant averaged 11.8 points and was named to the Miss
Basketball Showcase All-American Team. As a junior-to-be in the summer of 2003,
Gant averaged 16.6 points and led the Air Oklahoma Stars to a perfect 8-0 record
and the Miss Basketball Showcase National Championship. Gant finished with 21
points in a 62-46 title game victory over the Wichita Tornados. Gant now plays
for Texas A&M.
2002 MVP:
ANDREA LIGHTFOOT Nebraska / Iowa Elite
Lightfoot, a 5-9 senior-to-be at Marian High School in Omaha, Nebraska,
averaged a tourney high 20.0 points in the Showcase. She scored a team high 23
in the 70-64 championship victory over the Daubert Pinnacle Nebraska All-Stars.
As a junior, she averaged 19.3 points and was named 1st Team All-State. As a
sophomore, she averaged 15.3 points and led Marian to the Class A (large school)
state title. She will play for the Big 12's University of Nebraska.
2001 CO-MVP's:
KRISTI WOODARD & ANGIE JANIS Tournament Gold
This inside out duo helped Tournament Gold win their first Miss Basketball
Showcase crown and have been selected as our 2001 Co-MVP's. Woodard, a 5-9 guard
at Bellevue West High School in Omaha, Nebraska, averaged 16.3 points in the
Showcase, including a team high 15 in the 48-40 championship victory over Sioux
Falls Riders. As a junior, she averaged 18 points and 5 boards and was a 2nd
Team All-State selection.
She now plays for Creighton University. Angie Janis, a 6-1 post from Millard
North High School in Omaha, Nebraska, has attracted significant interest from
college scouts. She averaged 16 points per game for Tournament Gold, including
11 in the title game. As a junior, Janis averaged 15 points and 10.1 boards for
Millard North, which finished 18-6 and reached the Class A (large schools) state
semi-finals. She was named 1st Team Class A All-State and also carries a 3.7
GPA. She now plays for Creighton University.
2000 CO-MVP's:
SARITA DEBOER Dakota Blue & MEGAN MAHONEY
Sioux Falls Riders
These two outstanding players helped lead their teams to the finals
of the 2000 Showcase championship game, won 52-50 by Dakota Blue.
DeBoer led Dakota Blue with 20 points in the finale, Mahoney scored 15
for the Sioux Falls Riders. Their contributions to their teams
were significant during the four day event.
DeBoer, a 6-2 center from Huron, South Dakota, caught the eye of many
college coaches during the weekend. As a junior, she averaged 14.6
points and 8.5 rebounds per outing for Huron High, which finished 20-4
and 3rd at the state tournament. A second team all-stater, she also
carries a 4.0 gpa. During Miss Basketball, DeBoer averaged 10.9 points
per game, including her tourney high in the championship game.
Mahoney, a versatile 6-0 guard/forward from Sturgis, South
Dakota, went on to play at Kansas St., where she earned All-Big 12
honors. She was drafted in the third round (34th pick overall) of the
2005 WNBA Draft by the Connecticut Sun. As a high school junior, she
averaged 17 points per game for 20-3 the state runner-up team. A
two-time Miss Basketball All-American, Mahoney averaged 15.86 points
during the 2000 Showcase.
1999 MVP:
LAURIE KOEHN Kansas Thunder Bolts
The Kansas St. star became the NCAA women's all-time leader for
three-pointers made in a career. This 5-8 shooter left a mark on the
record books that won't soon be erased. Koehn averaged 28 points per
game at the Showcase, almost 9 better than the previous high mark by
Wendi Willits (later played at U. of Arkansas). She had games of 41
points, 40, 30, 29, 27, 25, 21 and 11, for a total of 224 (102 more than
the previous record of 122 by Caton Hill now at U. of Oklahoma). She hit
34 three-pointers in the Showcase. Koehn, who was USA Basketball's
third leading scorer on the 2000 gold medal-winning Women's Junior World
Championship Qualifying team this past summer, averaged 37 points, 5.9
rebounds, 3.4 assists and 5.2 steals as a senior at Moundridge (Kan.)
High School. She was named a Parade Magazine 2nd Team All-American and
received several preseason Big 12 Freshman of the Year awards. In May
2005, Koehn signed with the WNBA's Washington Mystics.
1998 MVP:
STEPHANIE JONES Daubert Pinnacle Bank Nebraska
All-Stars
6-1 forward Stephanie Jones helped propel the Nebraska all-staters to
their first title. Jones scored 19 points vs. Kansas Dream Team in a
60-54 championship game win. A three-year starter at Benson High in
Omaha, Jones was a Street & Smith All-American honorable mention and
first team Class A all-stater. Jones narrowed her list of college
choices to Connecticut and Nebraska, before signing with the Huskers.
1997 MVP:
NICOLE FOSTER
Kansas Dream Team
Foster led the Kansas Dream Team during the Miss Basketball Showcase
with 12 points per outing, including a game high 15 in the championship
game win over Texas Express. Foster was her strongest in the Dream
Team's four tournament games, averaging close to 16 points in those
games. Foster led Utica High School to a 22-3 season with 18.6 points
and 11.5 boards per game. 1996 co-MVP's:
WENDI WILLITS
Oklahoma Flyers Red
As a freshman at Arkansas, Willits averaged 6.8 points and was named the SEC
Freshman Player of the Year. Willits started all 5 NCAA tournament games as
Arkansas advanced to the NCAA Final 4. She set the school record with 7
three-pointers in a game. In the Showcase, Willits led the Flyers and the
tourney with 19.6 ppg until leaving for the WBCA select camp in St. Louis after
pool play and two rounds of the tourney. Despite missing three games, she still
led the tournament with a total of 98 points and 13 three-pointers. Willits, a
5-7 guard, tallied 3,387 career points for Fort Cobb-Broxton High School in Fort
Cobb, Oklahoma. SHAUNA PORTER
Twin Lakes Stars I
Porter led the Stars to the tournament title with 97 points in 7 games. Her
16.2 points per game and 97 total were second only to Willits. The 5-6 guard led
Waconda East High School in Cawker City, Kansas, to a 27-1 season as a junior.
She averaged 25 points and 5 rebounds as WEHS finished third in the state
tournament. Porter started as a freshman for Fort Hays St. University. |
